Framed Encouragments

I wanted to share how I made a few of the framed colourful & sparkly words of encouragement from a previous post about my creative space.

Here are the supplies I used:

Dollarama has these adorable frames for $1.

Wall Decor & More cartridge for Cricut machine. Lots of other words and phrases to choose from. See this project I made almost a year ago.

Glitter cardstock in bright colours, from Michaels store.

(I think the whole project took 10 minutes.)

My next project involves the whole toilet-paper roll craze that's been sweeping the crafting world for awhile.

So. Many. Possibilities.

Hoping today finds you inspired, creative & renewed!

A Rainbow of Thoughts

Monday's ramblings amid all the beautiful colours of the rainbow.

I wonder if when we get to Heaven, we will see colours that we've never seen before?

That was rambling #1.

Read on, if you're intrigued.

This week is a "gearing-up" kinda week.

I have an assignment to complete for LDI part deux, which I will be attending next week near Vancouver, BC.

Excited about going (never been to Van before), but not too thrilled with flying on my own.

The last (and only) time I've ever flown on my own was when Dad was moved into the hospital.

Happy this flight will, at least, be more positive in overall general circumstance.

Also, I get to attend the Divisional Jr. Youth Together this weekend with Bria and 5 other girls. This is likely to mean very little sleep the day before I fly to BC. I know the girls are very excited, so maybe I can run on their adrenaline.

I used to be so good at staying up late!

A real night owl.

*Hoot*

I went to bed at 8pm last week.

We've been told someone should be contacting us about dropping off boxes for our move sometime this week.

Jas & I were pondering the fact that this next house will be our 6th house to live in since we got married, including a short stint of living with my parents just prior to our move to Winnipeg for CFOT.

Anyone else immediately think of Mary whenever they hear/use the word ponder?

"And Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart."
- Luke 2:19

My dieting has gone to pot lately.

One would think with the nicer weather we've been (finally) having, I'd be spending more time outdoors walking/running/leaping.

No such dice. I need to make this a priority for all of us.

I have a lot of priorities right now.

Not good when you're a natural born procrastinator.

Today our goal is to (somewhat) sort through the two disaster areas of our home.

1. The garage.

(Where does all the STUFF come from?!?!?)

2. My craft room, which in recent months has ended up being more of a catch-all than a place of creativity.

I must get to those teacher appreciation gifts and other tokens of thanks that I have floating around in my head!

My greatest ideas of inspiration come to me in the middle of night when everyone else is asleep.

Why IS that?

I need to keep a pad of paper and a pen on my bedside table and record these random creative thoughts immediately.

For future pondering.

Speaking of weather (a few ramblings back), I was recently chatting with another Albertan Mom about how difficult it is to dress kids for school during this time of year.

The day can start out at 0 degrees and end up close to +20.

Last week when I picked the kids up from school, I literally saw a boy dressed in shorts, a sleeveless shirt and sandals being chased by a kid wearing a parka.

I can empathize with and relate to both of their Moms.

Signing off to tend to several of the priorities that I've procrastinated about.

Vintage Easter

Wow. Almost a week since my last post! Almost.

It's been a busy week.

We had our church Passover Seder on Saturday night. I always love that event - the learning, yummy meal, good conversation about God's promises fulfilled. I love how the kidlets get involved and are learning more and more each year about the significance of it all.

We've been prepping for Good Friday and Easter Sunday festivities. Scripture readings, music, devotionals, breakfast menus, stuffing plastic eggs with chocolate. We like to incorporate all the elements of Easter into this weekend. A good ol' fashioned Easter egg hunt is a great way to teach about new life and the everlasting treasures found in Christ.

I love Easter and all that it represents.

And yes, the chocolate. *giggle*

The kidlets have been busy with school. Lots of tests and projects lately.

I was able to catch a movie a few nights ago with a dear friend.

And then lunch with another.

And then coffee with friends and their kidlets last night.

It's been a good week.

Can't wait for BBQ season so we can get together in that way.

Nothing says friendship like smoked meat and lemonade!

Today I'm taking some time for me before the busyness of the weekend hits us.

Getting my hair done. It's been waaaay too long - I think January???

I'm a sight/fright.

Hoping I find my camera, which has been hiding somewhere in this house.

I want to be able to post some pics throughout the weekend.

Until then, have a Happy Easter! God loves you. A LOT.

Sunday

The Wise Woman's Stone

A wise woman who was traveling in the mountains found a precious stone in a stream. The next day she met another traveler who was hungry, and the wise woman opened her bag to share her food. The hungry traveler saw the precious stone and asked the woman to give it to him. She did so without hesitation. The traveler left, rejoicing in his good fortune. He knew the stone was worth enough to give him security for a lifetime. But a few days later he came back to return the stone to the wise woman.

"I've been thinking," he said, "I know how valuable the stone is, but I give it back in the hope that you can give me something even more precious. Give me what you have within you that enabled you to give me the stone."

Yellow

I could post about looming government shutdowns and other stresses, but I'm choosing to ramble amid bursts of the colour yellow today.

Right now I'm sipping on my mug o'tea and waiting on the tile guy who is going to remove the tiles on our stairs and replace them with carpet.

Tile on stairs is just wrong.

We've taken a few tumbles resulting in only (thankfully) scraped shins and backs. I'm certain it's a formula for a sliced vertebrae, had either of us fallen harder. Carpet is definitely the more friendly flooring option. Especially when, like me, you can slip on a piece of lint.

Hubby's shotokan karate career continues with him having received his orange belt this week. He's hoping to move into the next stage by mid summer. I joke, but I am very proud of him.

He's also blogging again at The Vorpal Sword.

I'm SO enjoying Adele's 21 CD.

Snow is melting around us and the park across the street is almost play-ready.

Both kids are getting lots of use of their rubber boots lately. It's wonderful to see them playing together outside until bedtime for most of this past week.

My Easter crafting has been lacking. Michaels has a shortage on DMC floss, so the bunny magnets I'd been stitching are missing parts. Poor things. Maybe they'll have better luck for next year.

I've started a new personal devotional book here at home. I'll probably do a separate blog post about it, as I'm really enjoying this time of just God and I.

Ordinary Adventure

"And while it takes courage to achieve greatness, it takes more courage to find fulfillment in being ordinary. For the joys that last have little relationship to achievement, to standing one step higher on the victory platform. What is the adventure in being ordinary? It is daring to love just for the pleasure of giving it away. It is venturing to give new life and to nurture it to maturity. It is working hard for the pure joy of being tired at the end of the day. It is caring and sharing and giving and loving…"

Happiness

So stop waiting until you finish school,
until you go back to school,
until you lose ten pounds,
until you gain ten pounds,
until you have kids,
until your kids leave the house,
until you start work,
until you retire,
until you get married,
until you get divorced,
until Friday night,
until Sunday morning,
until you get a new car or home,
until your car or home is paid off,
until spring, until summer, until fall, until winter,
until you are off welfare,
until the first or fifteenth,
until your song comes on,
until you've had a drink,
until you've sobered up,
until you die,
until you are born again
to decide that there is no better time than right now to be happy...

Music & Lyrics

I'm privileged to be the person who chooses the songs we sing on Sunday mornings during our church worship and celebration service.

(I'm always open to input!)

Today I'm coordinating the order of service and adding a few creative elements as we find ourselves in the 2nd Sunday of Lent as well as in the midst of The Salvation Army's Partners in Mission campaign to aid Liberia.

I truly believe God speaks profoundly through music and poetry.
The Bible is filled with it.
Timeless, truthful, beautiful words.

Today, while flipping through our church songbook, I found a familiar hymn that specifically spoke to me in light of the recent devestation in Japan and other parts of our world - as well as the turmoils and tensions I've been made aware of in the lives of several people I care very deeply about.

sickness
bullying
indecision
loneliness
anxiety
grief

Each can be overwhelming to go through, nevermind trying to be that friend who stands along the sidelines wondering how I can even possibly be of any help and comfort.

Here are the lyrics.

THE WONDER OF HIS GRACE

Many are the things I cannot understand
All above me mystery I see
But the gift most wonderful from God's own hand
Surely is His gift of grace to me

Higher than the stars that reach eternity
Broader than the boundaries of endless space
Is the boundless love of God that pardoned me
O the wonder of His grace!

When I came to Jesus with my sin and shame
And to Him confessed my deepest need
When by faith I trusted fully in His name
God's rich grace was granted me indeed

Passing understanding is His boundless love
More than I can ever comprehend
Jesus, in His mercy, left His throne above
All to be my Saviour and my friend

------------

Thank you God for halting my crazy day for this special moment.

Thank you for reminding me of Your amazing love,
creatively penned by others whose words continue to testify to the same.

Sunday

And today I'm praying for...

JAPAN

The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
a refuge in times of trouble.
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.
